Frequently Asked Questions
For GM and Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep remote tunes
How does remote tuning work?
- You book an appointment, and I connect to your Windows laptop over the internet with TeamViewer QuickSupport (free download at the top of this site).
- I make the initial changes while the car is parked.
- You take a short drive while the laptop datalogs. Then you return to Wi-Fi so I can correct fueling.
- A second drive lets me dial in power and address any concerns you have.
- Most vehicles take 1.5–2 hours. Some can take up to 3.
- Every car is different. I tailor the tune to what your vehicle needs, whether that’s a weak torque converter, a lack of fuel at wide-open throttle, spark knock, or something else.
What do I need?
- A Windows 10 or 11 laptop, fully charged or with a car charger, since sessions can run up to 3 hours
- Good Wi-Fi where the car is parked (Wi-Fi isn’t needed while driving)
- HP Tuners or a compatible module, or you can rent or buy one from me (see below)
- TeamViewer QuickSupport installed
- A car that’s ready to drive: tires aired up and a healthy battery. If it’s been sitting, have a jump pack or cables handy.
- Your remaining balance, ready to pay during the appointment
How much does it cost?
- GM remote tune (you already have HP Tuners or equivalent): $375
- Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep remote tune (you already have HP Tuners or equivalent): $400
-
Remote tune + tuner rental: $500, with $100 refunded when the tuner is returned
- Retunes for most mods: $275
- Nitrous, turbo, and supercharged setups are priced by build, typically 2–3× standard.
- Boosted applications, 8- and 10-speed transmissions, and certain model years can change pricing. If you’re not sure, ask. Don’t assume.
How do I schedule?
- A $100 deposit reserves your spot and goes toward your tune.
- You aren’t on the schedule until the deposit is paid. Available times can change while others are booking.
- After paying, message me so I can put you down. Also text your full name to (817) 627-5938 so I have a backup way to reach you.
- Weekend and 6 PM appointments cost an extra $150.
What’s the cancellation policy?
- Deposits are non-refundable.
- If you cancel at least 3 hours before your appointment, your $100 carries over to your tune.
- If you cancel with less than 3 hours’ notice, the deposit is forfeited.
- Arriving more than 15 minutes late counts as a cancellation and forfeits the deposit.
What if my car has problems and the tune can’t be finished?
- The remaining balance is still due on tuning day.
- Second appointments are discounted to $175 when booked at 7 AM Central. Any other time slot is a standard $250 appointment.
What does the tune include?
Exact changes depend on your vehicle, but a typical tune includes the following.
Power & Fueling
- VE and MAF fueling corrected. Many older cars run about 15% lean from the factory and never make their rated power.
- Spark timing optimized for your altitude
- Power enrichment delay removed
- Throttle allowed to open fully (100%)
- Throttle and torque limiters disabled
Transmission
- Faster shifts with quicker shift request times
- Shift points set for your engine’s powerband
- Downshifts into lower gears at higher speeds for stronger acceleration
- Torque reduction during shifts to cut load and wear
- Increased idle line pressure to prevent or fix “slip bang”
- Torque converter pressure increased and tested during the drive
- Converter lockup limited to highway cruising to extend its life
Limiters & Factory Settings
- Speed limiter removed
- Rev limiter set for your engine
- “Abuse mode” disabled. This is what makes the car buck during burnouts or when powering out of a corner.
- Reduced power (limp) mode disabled
- Cylinder deactivation disabled (AFM/DOD on GM, MDS on Dodge)
- A/C cuts out at high RPM to free up power
Cooling
- Cooling fans set to come on earlier, pre-tuned for my fan kit where available
Fuel & Sound Options
- Flex fuel enabled and pre-tuned. This requires an E85 kit, available from me or on this site.
- Decel fuel cutoff disabled for more pops and burbles. It works best without cats and while holding gears.
- Optional crackle tune, recommended only if your cats are removed or will be soon
Emissions
- Emissions-related codes disabled and monitors set to pass
How much power will I gain?
- It depends on how far off your factory fueling is. Cars running lean can see significant gains.
- If your fueling is already on target, expect roughly 18–25 whp and 15–18 lb-ft on 93 octane, depending on engine health.
- Results vary by platform and setup.
How do you protect my transmission?
- Converter testing: A slipping torque converter is one of the main things that kills these transmissions. I raise converter pressure and test it on the drive. If it still slips, I disable lockup entirely.
- Smart lockup: If the converter is healthy, it only locks during highway cruising (top gear, about 55+ mph). Highway MPG stays the same. City MPG may drop slightly.
- Torque reduction on shifts: Power is pulled briefly during each shift. This takes load off the transmission, speeds up shifts, and reduces wear.
- Idle pressure: Raised to stop slip bangs caused by factory pressure drop and worn seals.
How does the tuner rental work?
- The tuner module is what connects your laptop to the vehicle.
- Once the rental is paid, you’re placed in line for the next available tuner. The wait before it ships is usually 1–2 weeks.
- After we finish and you’re happy with the tune, return it within 3 business days using the included USPS Priority return label, and send me the drop-off receipt.
- Some tuners come from other customers, so you may need to print a label. If you don’t have a printer, you can hand-write the address and I’ll send instructions.
- Your $100 is refunded once the tuner is returned.
Should I rent or buy my own module?
Owning your own module gives you:
- Easier retunes when you add mods later
- Faster help with future problems. I can pull live data to diagnose a check engine light or other issue.
- The ability for me to tune your friends’ vehicles with it, and you make a profit doing it
Where can I see your work?
- Join the JPPT customer group on Facebook. It’s mostly customers sharing their cars, experiences, and reviews, with builds ranging from stock to 1,000 hp: https://www.facebook.com/groups/571303806838541
Still have questions?
- Message me on Facebook or through the Contact page. I’m happy to go over your setup before you order.
